Basically, I started reading self-published authors as a way to find literature that hasn't gone through the same left-leaning agent-editor-publisher filter as most commercially produced books. And I thought, “Why don't I start a book review blog specializing in right-leaning, self-published authors? I could attract like-minded authors to my blog and - get this - they would send me their books FOR FREE!”
Am I a genius or what?
Are you familiar with the "sucker punch?" The annoying leftist jab that springs up in the middle of an otherwise enjoyable entertainment? Perhaps you were at a concert and your favorite musician took a moment between songs to tell you you're stupid for voting the way you do. Or maybe you were immersed in a great book, only to read about the protagonist embracing Marxist beliefs. Or you were at the movies, and the characters constantly proclaimed that people who go to church, celebrate tradition, and believe in personal responsibility are racist-sexist-homophobic idiots. Or perhaps the characters didn't say anything in particular, they simply behaved in a manner so objectionable that you couldn't care less what happened to them. Nothing breaks the spell of art like the sucker punch!
Maybe you handled it the way I did, just stopped going to movies and concerts and avoided the latest "important" or "wildly popular" book like the plague. But all the while, you mourned the loss of art, fiction, imagination, music, and storytelling in your life. Well, good news! You don't have to live that way any longer.
Thank God for the internet and alternate media. More and more brilliant and talented people are creating art and entertainment from a conservative, traditionalist, and/or libertarian point of view. They're going right around the liberal gatekeepers who used to run the publishing, television, film, and music industries. The days of entertainment from a left perspective only are gone!
What I aim to do on this little blog is review fiction - books, mostly, but the occasional film, TV show, internet media, and song - that makes people like us feel at home. I am VERY amenable to indie and self-published books (I have one myself, in fact), if you care to send me yours.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please email me before sending me your book. I am most interested in the following genres: thrillers, romantic suspense, mysteries, some paranormal and fantasy. I will consider sci-fi, speculative, dystopian and historical fiction on a case-by-case basis. I prefer paperbacks but will also accept a .mobi or .pdf.
I will post an honest review. If I feel your book rates below 3 (of 5) stars, I will not review it (so you're pretty safe). I'll post reviews on this blog, on Amazon, and on Goodreads. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR BOOK IS WELL EDITED. Typos, misspellings and poor grammar are a huge turn-off for me. I can excuse one or two mistakes - we self-published folk don't usually have the luxury of professional editors - but if errors are endemic, I will stop reading your book. I don't know what my turnaround time is at this point, since this blog is a brand new endeavor. I'll try to give you an accurate estimate when I receive your book. Thanks and hope to hear from you!
